Surrogacy FAQs
Considering the journey to become a surrogate mother? Below, we've answered the most frequently asked questions from women interested in joining our program to help you understand the process, requirements, and benefits.
What is the difference between Gestational Surrogacy and Traditional Surrogacy?
Gestational surrogacy is when a fertilized embryo is implanted into a gestational carrier (the surrogate) to carry the resulting child to term but who has no genetic relationship to it/them. Gestational surrogates do not use their own eggs. Traditional surrogacy is when the gestational carrier is genetically related to the embryo, which is implanted through artificial insemination, and relinquishes custody of the resulting child upon birth.
Do you use my eggs for the pregnancy?
CCI does not do traditional surrogacy so you do not use your own eggs.
What are the requirements to be a Surrogate with CCI?
To be a surrogate mother in our program, you must:
- Have given birth to at least one child.
- Be between the ages of 21-41.
- Not be receiving government assistance for yourself.
- Have a history of healthy pregnancies and deliveries (no serious complications, no deliveries before 35 weeks unless it was a multiple birth).
- Undergo and pass a psychological evaluation, including a written test (MMPI-2/PAI).
- Complete medical testing for yourself and your partner, which includes health, drug, and tobacco screenings. This may also include a hysteroscopy to ensure uterine health.
What is the average compensation for a Surrogate?
Compensation depends on several factors. In general, first-time surrogates receive a base compensation of $60,000, and experienced surrogates are compensated between $70,000 and $75,000. In addition, CCI offers other payments and benefits based on your specific journey.
Do you get compensated more for twins or triplets?
Yes, Surrogates are compensated an extra $6,000 for twins and $8,000 for triplets.
Will I have any part in choosing my couple?
Yes, you play a central role in choosing the couple. During your interview, we'll discuss your preferences to help find a perfect match. You will review profiles of Intended Parents and have the final say on who you move forward with.
Do I meet my couple before getting started?
Yes. Every surrogate and her couple will meet to confirm that both parties want to move forward.
Do you work with all types of couples?
Yes. At CCI, we work with all types of couples. We do not discriminate against age, ethnic background, marital status, or sexual orientation.
Does CCI work with out-of-state and out-of-country Intended Parents?
Yes. We work with couples throughout the United States and internationally.
How many embryos are transferred back to the Surrogate?
The number of embryos for transfer is carefully discussed and agreed upon by you, the Intended Parents, and the physician before the procedure. This ensures everyone is comfortable moving forward.
Do you have a phone list of available Surrogates that I can speak with?
Yes. We have Surrogates available with their consent.
What kind of support does CCI provide?
From the moment you join our surrogacy center, you are assigned a dedicated Case Manager who will guide and support you through the entire journey. You will also have access to professional psychologists and be invited to monthly surrogate support groups to connect with other women in the program.
